November 16, 2024 at 12:04 pmThis film is a delightful throwback to the kind of films we don’t see much of these days—an endearing mix of romance, comedy, and drama. Set against the backdrop of the fake Moon landing filmed in the 1960s, the film lovingly nods to NASA’s achievements while crafting a fun and heartfelt narrative. While the movie occasionally feels a bit stretched in terms of runtime, it still manages to maintain an engaging pace, thanks to its blend of humor, emotion, and nostalgic charm.
The pairing of Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum proves to be surprisingly effective. Their chemistry shines through, even during the moments when they are at odds or on the verge of a breakup. It’s easy to root for them to eventually end up together, and both actors are given enough depth to make their relationship feel genuine and layered. Tatum, usually known for his action roles, brings a surprising vulnerability here, while Johansson delivers her usual sharp wit and warmth.
Woody Harrelson adds an intriguing touch to the film, playing a character with a cool, easygoing charm that subtly hides a darker, more sinister side. His performance adds complexity to the story, providing a nice contrast to the otherwise lighthearted tone. Jim Rash, on the other hand, delivers some broad comedic relief, and while his performance might not be for everyone, it certainly brings some laughs to the table.
Ultimately, this movie is a feel-good film that captures the spirit of classic romantic comedies while paying homage to a pivotal moment in history. While it may not reinvent the wheel, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable ride that showcases lovely performances, an engaging plot and a visual style that adds a lot of personality to the film.
